Bologna want a swift resolution on Joshua Zirkzee’s future in the coming days as they line up potential successors for the forward.

At present, Manchester United are believed to be the most likely club to acquire the forward’s signature after AC Milan dropped out of the race to pursue other targets.

The Red Devils are seeking a proven but young forward who can ease the goalscoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund. Zirkzee has represented all of Bayern Munich, where he graduated from their youth system, Parma and Anderlecht in his senior career before he moved to Bologna permanently in 2022.

It’s thought that hashing out a deal for the Dutch international would be considerably easier than it would for other targets, as he has a £34 million release clause embedded into his contract terms. Therefore, all that’s left to negotiate are personal terms, including wages and contract length.

Bologna cant’s risk missing out on Zirkzee replacements

Local outlet Corriere di Bologna has provided some insight into the Serie A club’s stance as we enter the third week of the transfer window. As the Italians have shortlisted replacements for Zirkzee, they need to know as ‘quickly’ as possible if he’ll be leaving before igniting their pursuit of their targets.

This includes Panathinaikos’ Fotis Iannodis, who has been the subject of an approach from Leicester City this week. As such, Bologna fear missing out on their desired signings while United mull over a move for Zirkzee.
