Roxanne Perez has undeniably emerged as the standout star of the NXT Women’s division and is even the NXT Women’s Champion now. She has many idols, and that includes AJ Lee. In fact, Perez claimed CM Punk is trying to get Lee to return to pro wrestling.
AJ Lee’s success story in WWE is truly remarkable, credited for playing a pivotal role in kickstarting WWE’s Women’s Revolution. She left pro wrestling back in 2015, immediately after WrestleMania 31.
That didn’t stop Lee from sparking in-ring return rumors after she posted photo with her old ring gear. However, AJ Lee then made it clear that she is still retired and this saddened fans.
It is well known that Roxanne Perez draws inspiration from AJ Lee. After her wrestling career, AJ Lee transitioned into writing and co-founded Scrappy Heart Productions.
While speaking to Pro Wrestling Illustrated, Roxanne Perez noted that she has discussed her desire to have a match with Lee with CM Punk, who has also been trying to persuade Lee to return to the ring as well. Perez remains hopeful that AJ Lee will eventually come back for a match.
”Definitely, yeah, I try (to talk to CM Punk about convincing A.J. Lee to return) but he tells me that he’s doing the same thing. He’s trying to get her to come back, he’s pulling her in but, I hope one day she decides to come back and have a match with me.”
It remains to be seen if by some miracle AJ Lee does return to WWE television somehow, as fans would more than love to see her compete again inside the squared circle.
