CM Punk appeared on the September 24 episode of WWE NXT.
In a backstage segment, Punk could be seen speaking with Je’Von Evans. Trick Williams approached Punk and spoke about the upcoming NXT Championship match where he will challenge Ethan Page for the gold. He told Punk, the special referee in that match, that Page will surely try every underhanded tactic in the book. Williams said that he was not going out like that.
Punk responded by noting that he had seen Williams’ journey up to this point. He said that he was proud of Williams, but he set the record straight by saying that he would not let Williams or Page cheat in the match. Punk said that he was there to make sure that the best man to lead NXT into the CW future wins the match, whoever that may be. He also said that there would be no favors given, and he would not play favorites.
Williams will challenge Page for the NXT Championship on the October 1 episode of NXT.
