CM Punk and Kevin Owens had a heated confrontation on WWE SmackDown.

Kevin Owens spoke with Joe Tessitore on the January 31st episode of WWE SmackDown. He vowed to win the Undisputed WWE Championship at WWE Royal Rumble, where he will face Cody Rhodes in a Ladder Match. Owens then took the Winged Eagle Title, which was suspended from above the ring.

CM Punk came out and confronted Owens. He stared him down without saying anything. Punk said that he was there to apologize for interrupting, but he heard his name, so he thought that was an invitation. Punk said he was sorry for making it sound like Rhodes beating him was a given. He then said that when he won the Royal Rumble, and if Owens defeated Rhodes, they might face each other in the main event of WWE WrestleMania 41.

Owens responded by saying that he liked the sound of beating Punk at WrestleMania. He noted that he knew that main-eventing WrestleMania was important to Punk, and the dream was at his fingertips. Owens also said he loved the thought of Punk never getting to realize that dream. He said the idea of Punk going to his grave a miserable failure made him happy, and he hoped he didn’t win the Royal Rumble.

CM Punk fired back by noting that he hadn’t main-evented WrestleMania. He praised Owens but said that he had never lost five title matches at WWE Royal Rumble, unlike Owens. Punk also said that he, unlike Owens, had never lost to Logan Paul. He then accused Owens of manipulating his best friend. Punk said that win, lose, or draw, he did it by himself, while Owens took shortcuts. He stated that for them to face each other at WrestleMania, he had to win the Royal Rumble, while Owens had to beat Cody Rhodes. Punk threatened to fight Owens, but Owens walked away.
