CM Punk’s highly anticipated debut in AEW initially seemed to place the world at his feet. However, his tenure in the company took a drastic turn as he was released last year, leading to a disappointing outcome. With that said, AEW stars felt betrayed he was backstage on RAW last year as well.

Just so you’re aware, CM Punk was backstage during the April 24th, 2023 episode of Monday Night RAW, during his hiatus from AEW television due to an injury sustained at the 2022 All Out event.

Punk interacted with various members of the roster and had a conversation with Triple H. It was also reported who specifically requested CM Punk to leave. Additionally, some WWE Superstars believed that Punk’s appearance was solely to build hype for his eventual return to AEW.

While speaking on the MMA Hour, CM Punk talked about his surprise RAW appearance last year. When questioned about any potential backlash from AEW regarding his presence at RAW, Punk revealed that the term “betrayed” was mentioned.

However, he emphasized the distinction between his friendly visit and participating in televised appearances for another promotion. Punk maintained that his intention was solely to connect with friends and dismissed any criticism from AEW as unwarranted.

“I think the word betrayed was used, and I was just like, All right, man. As a company, you’re allowing guys to go on their television show to do things. I went backstage to say hi to friends. It’s two completely different things. If you’re going to be mad about it, okay.”

CM Punk and The Miz also buried the hatchet during his surprise backstage appearance last year. Nonetheless, Punk is now a full-time WWE Superstar again and he couldn’t have asked for anything more.
