CM Punk has a new gig.
Variety reports that Punk landed a recurring role on the new Syfy horror series Revival. The show, based on the Image Comics series, was picked up by Syfy in May. Revival is currently in production in New Brunswick, Canada.
Punk joins Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen in the cast. Variety also reported Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead, Grand Theft Auto V) will also have a recurring role on the show. Details about CM Punk’s character are currently unknown.
“On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves,” Reads the official synopsis. “But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
CM Punk has previously appeared on television on the Starz series Heels and FX’s Mayans M.C. He has also appeared in the horror films The Girl on the Third Floor and Jakob’s Wife. He’s set to appear in Night Patrol with Justin Long and Let’s Start A Cult with Stavros Halkias.
CM Punk on branching out into TV, movies
CM Punk spoke with Denise Salcedo at San Diego Comic-Con about his goals after signing with Paradigm talent agency.
“Movies and TV, I want to do fun stuff with cool people.” CM Punk said. “That’s basically the pitch I gave them, and that’s the pitch I’ve been telling everybody all over Hollywood when I have meetings. I’m not Dave Bautista, I’m not Cena, I’m not The Rock, but obviously there’s value. And it’s not just me; I think there’s a lot of professional wrestlers who exhibit the same qualities. What we do every week is live television, and there’s no better training for reading a script or reading lines or acting.
“Acting is almost infinitely easier because if I screw something up, we can just do it again. I think there’s a lot of interesting individuals that can cross the bridge and transition over to do other stuff. It’s just how ambitious the individual is, and I’m ambitious to a fault. I want to experience everything. TV and movies are something I enjoy doing if it’s with cool people, if the project’s cool. We’re already steamrolling ahead. August is going to be very, very busy for me.”
