One of the most popular stars in WWE is former WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. The Second City Saint returned to WWE at the 2023 Survivor Series Premium Live Event. Currently, Punk is feuding with Drew McIntyre. Recently, Punk shared what he thinks is the key element in the art of professional wrestling.
CM Punk recently sat down with the Masked Man Show at Fanatics Fest in New York City. During the interview, Punk said that the most important thing in professional wrestling is emotion.
“Wrestling is about emotion,” CM Punk said. “It’s not about the moves, it’s not about how long your match is, it’s not about your fancy coat you wear to the ring. All those things can add to it. But if you can’t get the people and the audience to move, you can’t get them to feel anything, none of it means anything.”
The Second City Saint also shared the difference between him working at WWE a decade ago and him working in the same promotion today.
“It’s very much a team sport, and everybody really feels, since coming back, everybody wants to see everybody else succeed, as to where I was before, I’m talking 10 years ago, there was a lot of people that just wanted to see everybody fail,” Punk said. [They wanted to] protect their spot, cut everybody else’s throat, and I don’t really feel that in the WWE locker room. It’s great,” CM Punk said. [H/T WrestlingInc.]
CM Punk is set to face Drew McIntyre in a Strap Match at the Bash in Berlin Premium Live Event.
