The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede, has called for continued support from Nigerians to overcome the country’s security challenges.

Oluyede made the call on Sunday during his maiden operational visit to Sokoto, the headquarters of the 8 Division, since his appointment.

Speaking with journalists after a meeting with senior officers of the Division in Masallaci community, Tangaza Local Government Area, the army chief emphasised the importance of community collaboration in combating insecurity.

“I am here to assess the readiness of my soldiers and to encourage them to keep up the good work they are doing in securing our country,” Oluyede stated.

He urged the residents of the community to provide accurate and timely information to the military, which would be crucial in the fight against insecurity.

Commenting on the emergence of the new terror group, Lukarawa, Oluyede acknowledged that security challenges are inevitable but stressed the importance of how the nation responds to them.

“There will always be challenges, but the key is how we react to them. That’s why I’m here – to meet with my people and prepare them for these challenges. And that’s exactly what we will do,” he said.

He further appealed to Nigerians, particularly those in the communities, to continue supporting the military efforts, stressing that national security and economic prosperity go hand in hand.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. If we don’t get the support of the people, we cannot succeed, and the country will not be secured. We need the backing of Nigerians to ensure our collective security and drive economic growth,” he added.

The Army chief also visited troops in Illela Local Government Area of the state, where he held discussions with Battalion officers. He met with other security agencies in the region, stressing the need for greater synergy among the nation’s security forces.
