Tensions continued to rise between Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens on the September 27 episode of WWE SmackDown.
Randy Orton called out Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at the beginning of the show, asking why he was teaming up with Randy Orton. Kevin Owens interrupted, as did The Bloodline. Owens then challenged The Bloodline to a tag team match. Later in the show, Rhodes said that he and Owens had to talk. Owens said that they did, but it wasn’t the right time, and he got frustrated with Rhodes.
In the main event of Friday’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Owens and Orton faced Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa got involved, and Cody Rhodes tried to make the save. He was tossed into the ring, and he inadvertently took out the referee. His erroneous involvement prevented the referee from counting the pin for Owens. The Bloodline then went on to score the win.
Owens nearly snapped after the bell, as he got in Cody Rhodes’ face and got somewhat physical with him. They argued, and the situation reached a boiling point before Randy Orton intervened and tried to calm them down. Owens reluctantly hugged Rhodes as WWE SmackDown went off the air.
Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns are set to face Sikoa and Fatu at WWE Bad Blood.
