Cody Rhodes thinks Darby Allin can be the face of AEW if he manages to stay healthy.

Darby Allin is well-known for putting his body on the line in the ring. His death-defying stunts often border on dangerous, which is something Cody Rhodes thinks can hold him back.

Cody Rhodes spoke with Josh Martinez on YouTube. He was shown a clip of Darby Allin asking him if he could be the face of AEW in the future. The WWE Champion thinks that he can be, while noting that Darby Allin is absolutely confident in his own abilities.

He noted that his experience working with Sting over the past three years has shown Allin how to be a top guy in the company.

“The answer is a guaranteed yes, but don’t let Darby fool you. He was never insecure, and he was never not confident. Darby is almost overconfident. And that’s what we do — we talk smack, we wrestle each other, this is entertainment. I don’t mind it, but sometimes overconfidence can come across as arrogance.

In his case, though, it’s not arrogance. The experience he’s had now with Sting, the experience of seeing changes in the company — that’s the kind of experience you need to see clearly and realize, ‘Hey, I can be…’ I hate using this term, but ‘I can be the guy.’ Absolutely, he could 100% potentially be that person.

Cody Rhodes: You Can’t Be The Face Of The Company If You’re Not Relied Upon

Cody Rhodes continued. He noted that anyone could be the face of the company, if they are able to work hard enough.

He also referenced Darby Allin’s plan to climb Mount Everest. Cody added that he can’t be the face of AEW if he’s not reliable, which those doing those things stop him from being.

“But here’s the thing: that spot is available to far more people than we think. Everyone assumes it’s about politics or who you know — sure, there’s a degree of that in everything — but it’s a much fairer business than people realize. If you want to be in John Cena’s spot. Look at John Cena’s daily schedule. If you can do it, maybe you’re on the right path. If you can do it every day, then maybe you get the spot.”

“I believe it’s a much fairer business than people give it credit for. So yes, 100%, Darby could be that guy. But there are others who I would say that about too. Darby should have no doubt about whether he could do it.”

“But also, the crazy stunts — like climbing mountains and getting hit by buses — you can’t be the face of the company if you’re not relied upon. You can’t wrestle anybody when you’re in a body cast, you know what I’m saying? That’s just dumb. But I say that with love.”
