Cody Rhodes is the Undisputed WWE Champion and the true face of the company right now, which is why he wants to set the standard for a lot of things in the promotion, and that seems to include some form of bleeding.
Cody Rhodes has been an exception to WWE’s reduced use of blood, notably bleeding during a beatdown segment with The Rock ahead of WrestleMania 40 and at WWE Clash at the Castle.
While speaking on the Major Figure Podcast, The American Nightmare talked about the portrayal of blood in wrestling. Rhodes first mentioned the release of his AEW Double or Nothing 2019 figure set, which commemorates his match with Dustin Rhodes and includes elements that celebrate the use of blood in wrestling.
Cody made it clear he enjoyed seeing blood celebrated in wrestling merchandise and packaging, acknowledging its controversial but integral role in the industry. He noted the unique recognition of his WrestleMania experience where he was featured on a WWE shirt with a skull and a cut, following a memorable encounter with The Rock. Cody Rhodes gave emphasis to the fact that while the portrayal of blood in wrestling may be viewed differently by audiences, its inclusion is a very important aspect of the sport’s entertainment value.
“It’s very fun to see. Blood is part of sports entertainment, part of pro wrestling. It’s in a weird way, I don’t mean to sound toxic at all, it’s nice to see it celebrated in the packaging and in this moment. Actually, I gave myself a nice pat on the back for — recently going into WrestleMania, I was the first WWE shirt that got a little blood on it as well, they had done the skull with a little cut up top after Rock beat the hell out of me in the rain.”
Cody Rhodes also admitted he is banged up after Clash at The Castle. Regardless, Cody Rhodes will definitely bleed when he feels the storyline or matches demand it and that’s all that matters.
