At WrestleMania 40, Cody Rhodes finally finished his story by defeating Roman Reigns and becoming the WWE Undisputed Universal Champion. Rhodes has had a successful run so far. Recently, Rhodes shared how he handles the pressure of being the Undisputed Universal Champion.
Cody Rhodes defended his WWE Undisputed Championship against the self-appointed Tribal Chief Solo Sikoa at SummerSlam. Ahead of the Premium Live Event, the American Nightmare was interviewed by Justin Barrasso for Sports Illustrated as part of their SummerSlam series. During the interview, Rhodes mentioned that having the pressure as the champion is a scary concept. He says so because everything he does will directly impact the promotion.
“The thing I notice most about being champ is everything I do has a direct effect on WWE,” said Rhodes. “That’s a scary concept, right? Everything I do, even to what I eat, impacts WWE. That extra donut might make my abs pop less, right? Before, I would be more focused on how something impacts me, but now I’m looking at it from all angles. I’ve been neurotic about it, but I’ve looked at it as a real positive.”
The American Nightmare also mentioned that he takes the pressure in a positive way. But at the same time, he believes that if he had this much pressure earlier in his career then he would not have been able to handle it.
“To have that pressure is really good for me. If it happened earlier in my life, I don’t know how I would have been able to handle it,” Cody Rhodes said.
Rhodes managed to defeat Solo Sikoa thanks to the unexpected help from a returning Roman Reigns.
