There were a lot of references to AEW yesterday during the opening segment of WWE RAW between Cody Rhodes and John Cena.
For the third straight week, John Cena and Cody Rhodes opened WWE RAW. This week saw much more of a back and forth promo instead of the previous two weeks. Which saw Cena say his piece before being interrupted by Rhodes.
While never mentioned directly by name, AEW was a big focus of this week’s promo. Cody Rhodes mentioned he was booed by the fans in the company he helped create. Which later led to John Cena stating that he makes money for billionaires while Rhodes steals money from billionaires’ kids.
The closing moments of the segment, featured a quick tribute to The Elite. Something that Cody Rhodes has done multiple times since returning to WWE several years ago.
After hitting the Cross Rhodes on Cena, Rhodes hit the two sweet hand symbol, followed by the gun bang motion, before pointing to the WrestleMania sign. Rhodes has stated in the past that this is his way to pay tribute to his friends the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.
