Cody Rhodes thinks wrestling needs to understand that it lives inside its own bubble.
The WWE Champion has always been open to opportunities outside of wrestling. He had a sizeable part of Arrow when it aired, and has appeared on numerous reality TV shows over the past few years.
Cody Rhodes recently appeared on 2 Bears 1 Cave and discussed the idea that wrestling was inside its own bubble. He wants the WWE to embrace more crossover opportunities and take inspiration from other kinds of entertainment media. He added that he doesn’t like people gatekeeping wrestling, and invites people who feel left out to simply give it a chance, if they haven’t.
“Wrestling has a bad habit, and this is all companies, of not understanding that we’re in a bubble.” Cody Rhodes said. “There’s a whole outside world. There are multiple mediums of entertainment. Don’t be in a bubble. Don’t be afraid to do a little crossover thing,” Rhodes said.
“The pure, hardcore wrestling fans – they may not love it. But there’s something on the show that’s for them already. I’m not burning where I formerly was [AEW], but not understanding the power, and magnitude of new eyeballs and crossing over…”
“Also, I hate gatekeeping when it comes to what we do,” Rhodes continued. “That’s what we do really like about pro wrestling fans and sports entertainment. We welcome. Please. I would say ‘Hey, if you ever did your toe in, and this is not a shill for WrestleMania 40, but come to it. And if there’s not something where you’re like ‘alright’, then…”
