In a rather concerning update for FC Barcelona, Spain manager Luis de La Fuente has revealed that Dani Olmo suffered a heavy knock during La Roja’s last game against Serbia.

Olmo and Lamine Yamal were two of the four Barcelona stars in the squad that started in the UEFA Nations League clash against Serbia earlier this week in Belgrade.

The 26-year-old, who joined Barcelona this past summer, played a little over 80 minutes on the night before making way for Joselu.

Ahead of tomorrow’s game against Switzerland, it had been speculated that Olmo could be in line to start as the No. 9 for Spain with Pedri slotting in behind him as the attacking midfielder.

However, De La Fuente has provided a concerning update regarding the former RB Leipzig man, stating that he took a hard knock against Serbia earlier in the week and would not be part of the initial parts of training today.

“Dani Olmo will not train at the start of the training session. He received a heavy knock in the match and we don’t know how he’s going to feel between now and tomorrow,” said De La Fuente, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Just a while ago, reports had emerged claiming that Barcelona had grown concerned about the workload of their players due to the international matches and the fear of the ‘FIFA virus’ striking.

The Catalans had already lost Fermin Lopez to an injury while away with the Spanish Under-21 national team earlier this week and now Olmo has suffered a knock. It remains to be seen if the issue is serious or not.

De La Fuente had already drawn ire from some sections of Barcelona supporters over his decision to start Lamine Yamal against Serbia despite the fact that the youngster had picked up a knock in the game against Real Valladolid.

When asked about the concerns from the club and fans over the 17-year-old’s minutes, the La Roja boss said:

“It’s fortunate that they have a player of that level and that he plays so many games in the national team.”
