After a tumultuous start to his Manchester United tenure, Joshua Zirkzee has already been linked with a mid-season move away.

Indeed, numerous reports had claimed that the Dutchman was seeking a stint away from Old Trafford in hopes of regaining his best form before returning to the club. Juventus, for example, had been mooted as a likely option, given that his most recent exploits came in the Serie A.

Zirkzee joined the Red Devils from Bologna in July for a fee of £36.5 million. He got off to a dream start when he opened his account on his debut, scoring and winning the game for United on the first day of the Premier League campaign.

He has, however, yet to add to his tally since then, failing to find the back of the net in his subsequent 12 appearances across all competitions.

Now that Rasmus Hojlund is back from injury, Zirkzee also must settle for holding a rotational role alongside his £72m counterpart. He has come on as a substitute in the last three league matches but was given the nod for last week’s away tie against Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

The 23-year-old assisted within three minutes of entering the fold during yesterday’s clash with West Ham, although Casemiro’s equaliser was ultimately rendered in vain when Jarrod Bowen converted the Irons’ injury-time spot-kick.

Still, amidst the turbulent times he’s enduring on both a personal level and for United as a whole, he has no intention of parting ways just yet. Florian Plettenberg shared a definitive update this morning, telling fans: “Confirmed once again that a departure of Joshua Zirkzee is absolutely not an option. Manchester United want to keep him.

23 y/o striker is also determined to stay and prove himself. Contract valid until 2029 + 1. He was substituted in the 79th minute against West Ham (1:2).”
