Conor McGregor took his skills from the UFC to focus on football, with the Irishman flying into tackles and almost scoring a goal.

The MMA superstar nicknamed “Notorious” continues to take a break from the Octagon and has plenty to keep him busy. McGregor is a football fan, with divided loyalty to various teams – including Premier League giants Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as Scottish heavyweights Celtic – and continues to be linked with various takeover offers.

For now, he has turned his attention to the field, with the 36-year-old playing for a team named after The Black Forge pub he owns. Unsurprisingly, McGregor looked to leverage his physical attributes while wearing the number 11 on his back.

Muscular football

At one point, after losing the ball, McGregor pounced on an opponent with a big tackle. He also kicked an opponent in the stomach while attempting a shot, but nearly scored a spectacular goal in a match that ended 1-1 by lobbing a half-volley over the crossbar at 20 meters.

Fans on social media enjoyed watching clips of McGregor in action, with his performance as chaotic as expected. One of them said: “ The type of tackles I would expect him to make”. Others added:

“I can understand why he chose to fight” And ” McGregor playing football is the funniest thing ever.”

McGregor will return to the spectator role on Sunday when he joins the millions of viewers around the world to follow the FA Cup third round clash between United and Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
