Constituents of the Abia North senatorial district have continued to eulogize their representative at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Orji Uzor Kalu, over his performance in the education sector of the zone.
They have therefore described him as a promise keeper, whose re-election is good to go come 2027, “if he wishes.”
This was as facts emerged on Monday that among other infrastructural projects, he had done in the zone, over 50 classroom blocks have either been freshly built or reconstructed by Kalu, who chairs the Senate Committee on Privatisation since he was first elected to the Senate in 2019.
No fewer than 50 schools in Abia North senatorial district have attained various stages of completion following the reconstruction works facilitated by Senator Kalu.
Reacting to the development, prominent party stakeholders in Ohaekwe Ward in Arochukwu, Mr Kamsi Ogba, Uchenna Kalu from Ohafia, Agbai Kenneth from Igbere and Chidiebere from Umunneochi were full of praises for the senator, revealing, “Full construction works in each of the five local government areas o the senatorial zone have since commenced on the schools structures as captured in the 2024 budget submitted by Kalu.”
Ogba said, “Most of the schools were built during the lawmaker’s tenure as governor of Abia State, but they had since been abandoned by subsequent administrations. Kalu is a promise keeper.
“We are happy with the reconstruction of schools by Senator Kalu. In the past, we’ve had some politicians come and make all kinds of promises to us during campaigns and left and that was the last time we saw them.
“But Senator Kalu has distinguished himself, anytime he makes a promise he makes sure he fulfils it. Now we have seen the schools that he is building and we have seen evidence that we can showcase to others. We have also seen his impacts in other areas such as solar lights and roads that he has built.
“Everyone is proud and happy because of him; from the community, religious groups, adults, youths and children, we are all happy.
Speaking on the development, Kalu noted that his efforts are aimed at transforming the educational sector in his senatorial zone to ease and expedite the teaching and learning process for both staff and students.
He said, “The renovated schools, which were constructed by me as a governor were dilapidated and have not received attention since I left office in 2007.
“We will continue to deliver on our promises to the Abia North senatorial zone by changing the face of our schools that have been abandoned since I left as governor in 2007.
“Many of these schools are more than being dilapidated and step by step we are renovating and rebuilding all the schools in Abia North senatorial zone.”
Kalu has over the years, as a senator, been delivering democracy dividends to his constituents in the areas of empowerment, street lighting, road construction, scholarship, agricultural training and incentives, school construction, rehabilitation and furnishing, among others.
