Construction work on sections of the Tema-Aflao highway has resumed after a break of approximately 15 months, following an appeal by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, for contractors to return to the site.

BHM International Construction, the contractor responsible for the 17-kilometre stretch, returned to the site on Monday, 7th April 2025, to continue work on the project, which runs from the Tema Roundabout to the Central University campus at Miotso.

The project had been suspended in December 2022 due to funding constraints.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Client Relations Manager, Wisdom Adonu, called on the government to reinstate the $105 million loan facility required to complete the project within the revised 18-month timeline.

"This is our commitment to the project. We have returned to the site, and we appeal to the government to do its part by restoring the loan facility," he said.

The ongoing work begins one kilometre east of the Tema Expressway Roundabout, passing through areas such as Dawhenya, and terminates about three kilometres east of the Central University intersection.
