Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is sure to be on the move this summer as he approaches the end of his contract and it seems La Liga side Girona have been in contact over a possible deal.

That’s according to Spanish outlet Relevo, who state that the Reds playmaker’s entourage have been approached by Girona as they prepare to take part in the Champions League next season after their superb form in this current campaign.

Alcantara has endured a difficult final season at Liverpool, having barely played due to injury problems, and it makes sense that the 33-year-old is not going to be getting a new contract at Anfield.

Still, someone like Girona would surely benefit from bringing someone of Alcantara’s experience on board, while the player himself will also surely feel he still has something to offer at the highest level.

Thiago Alcantara to Girona transfer looks to be on the cards

Thiago Alcantara to leave Liverpool for Girona?

Relevo report that Girona want experienced and proven players for their Champions League campaign, and someone like Thiago clearly fits the bill.

It will undoubtedly be a shame to see such a talented player leaving Liverpool, but it’s also true that we never quite saw the best of him in his time in English football.

The Spaniard spent his peak years at Bayern Munich, helping them to that memorable winning Champions League campaign in 2020.

He never quite tasted that same success at Liverpool, though, with the Merseyside giants unable to lift another league title since 2020 despite coming close from time to time, while they were also unlucky to be on the losing side in the 2022 Champions League final.

Still, even if he’s been in decline recently, Alcantara had some moments that made him a real joy to watch and LFC fans will surely have fond memories of him and wish him the best for the future.
