Lisandro Martinez has warned Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho he won’t let the pair get carried away following Saturday’s FA Cup triumph.
United have missed Martinez throughout the season. Not just his performances as a top defender who passes through the lines, but his overall presence on the pitch.
Martinez lifts everyone in the defence. You can see it when there’s a crunching tackle celebrated on the pitch, as well the togetherness between the players fist-bumping and getting behind one another.
Teenage duo Garnacho and Mainoo scored the goals in United’s 2-1 win over City.
Garnacho pounced on a mix up between Stefan Ortega in the City goal and Josko Gvardiola to open the scoring. Minutes later it was left to Mainoo to double United’s lead and he made no mistake following an outrageous no-look pass from Bruno Fernandes.
In a post-match interview with Andy Mitten for Sony Sports Network, Martinez warned the younger lads to keep their feet grounded if they want to continue being successful in their careers.
“They deserve it,” Martinez said.
“For sure, we need to show them the way, how to do it, because it’s difficult for them, for their age, to control, because they become famous and this kind of thing.
“So it’s really important to show them, to teach them, how to go out in a good way.
“So now, keep control, celebrate, but with control.”

Martinez added his belief that United can use the FA Cup as a building block to take into next season.
“One hundred per cent,” Martinez added.
“Now it’s like the door is open and we need to learn about this season and we need to believe.
“We need to believe like today, football is mental and it’s about emotion, we need to believe.
“That’s it, and we have to look forward and dream big.”
