Cope (Adam Copeland) and FTR addressed the Asheville crowd after AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen last night.
Hurricane Helene rocked Asheville, North Carolina last year. FTR and Cope all live in the area and were out helping those affected by the weather. Fight for the Fallen was put on to help the victims of the disaster.
After AEW Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen, AEW posted a Twitter clip of FTR and Cope addressing the crowd in their hometowns.
Dax Harwood began, explaining how he came to live in Asheville and how Tony Khan helped bring the show to the city after the hurricane.
“I didn’t grow up here in Asheville unfortunately,” Dax Harwood said. “I grew up on the coast, on the beach. I thought for the rest of my life after I got married, I was gonna move back to the beach. And my wife said ‘hell no you ain’t. Your bitch ass is moving back to Asheville.'”
“That wasn’t the first or the last time my wife called me a bitch ass, but it was my favorite time. It was the greatest decision we made, aside from obviously our daughter. It was the greatest decision we ever made to move back here. Of course, some unfortunate events happened that affected all of us and we couldn’t count on anybody else. We could only count on us.”
“I’ve told this story a couple times before but myself, Cash and Adam sat in our training school and thought ‘what can we do to bring some hope, raise some awareness, raise some spirit and raise some money?’. Lets have a little live event for Asheville. Then Tony Khan said ‘Uh uh. I’m cancelling the Metropolitan city that I had for this first-ever debut simulcast of Max and TBS and I’m coming to Asheville!'”
“Last time I was in this building it was very bleak in the stands. We had just about a thousand people but tonight you packed it out. Almost a sellout crowd to see Rated-FTR and we love you guys. Thank you very much,” Dax Harwood added before handing the microphone to Cope.
Cope: We Don’t Let A Hurricane Keep Us Down
“Man. First match back in seven months. One more surgery. Another plate, seven screws. Doesn’t matter because guess what? I live in the 828. And here in the 828, we’re tough sons of bitches. We don’t let a hurricane keep us down, do we?”
“No, we don’t. We pick ourselves up. we dust ourselves off and we come and have a good time. I cannot say enough about this community. I cannot say enough about the things I saw when we went out trying to help some people, just like all of you did.”
“Because we’re a community. Because we’re neighbors. So if I see any of you in the street just come on up. ‘Hey Cope, what’s up?’ ‘I don’t know what’s up with you?’. Maybe we have a coffee, maybe we have a good time, just like we had tonight. So AVL! Stand up, all of your get off your asses, I know you can do it! Cmon! Everybody up! Say ‘Go to hell hurricane and guess what? 828!'”
Cope led the crowd in a chant of 828 before signing off to a huge cheer.
