The Chairman of Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Surah Animashaun, has said that the upgrade of the Epe General Hospital to Federal Medical Centre is a crucial step in addressing the healthcare needs of residents within the council and beyond.
According to her, this would attract infrastructure development and create employment for the teeming youths.
A Sunday statement noted that the council boss stated this in Epe while thanking the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The PUNCH reports that the General Hospital was transferred to the Federal Government for conversion and full upgrading to a tertiary health facility. The hospital is now to be known as Federal Medical Centre, Epe.
The Memorandum of Understanding facilitating the new status of the hospital was, on Thursday, signed by Governor Sanwo-Olu and Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during the maiden Lagos Trauma Conference organised by the state’s Ministry of Health.
Animashaun said the Lagos Trauma Conference marked a significant milestone for the hospital, noting that the upgrade was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the state and Epe’s prominent figures, who had been working to advance specialised medical care for local residents.
“Indeed, this upgrade and expansion of healthcare services aim to make Epe a medical tourism destination, transforming healthcare delivery in Lagos State, and the presence of a FMC represents hope for patients battling illnesses beyond the capacity of secondary healthcare, brings comfort for families in distress and increases the possibility of a healthier future for many more citizens within the state.
“The FMC would attract skilled healthcare professionals to the area, fostering a better healthcare environment. This influx would enhance the overall quality of care, leading to better health outcomes and increased life expectancy for the local population,” Animashaun said
She lauded President Tinubu for considering Epe Local Government among the local council having new FMC as she charged residents and traditional rulers of the Epe division and its environs to do all things necessary to ensure security of lives and property in the area.
