The Chairman of the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Surah Animashaun, has performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a museum and e-library centre in the council.
Animashaun said the state-of-the-art museum and library would serve as a repository of the local government’s collective and shared memories, noting that it would contain relics, exhibits, and interactions that showcase the community’s evolution and monumental developments.
She noted that the museum would open up the Epe local government council for tourism and spread the unique and distinct cultural heritage of people from different places and walks of life, adding that it would also boost the residents’ pride and help the council economy by increasing its revenue.
The chairman said, “I am happy to be here, I thank the Epe residents for their prayers and support. I am proud of the local government council, especially the growth recorded so far. I am proud of the togetherness, passion, and zeal to make it greater.”
She said setting up a contemporary library in the local government was an attestation to her passion for education in the council, noting that it was essential for 21st-century education that would provide an extensive range and collection of digital and print resources; such as e-books, online databases, and multimedia materials.
“Indeed, the museum and library would serve as a tourist attraction to indigenes and foreigners, which would, in turn, move the local government and the community forward,” she added.
Commending the chairman for the project execution, a former Supervisory Councillor for Environment, Shamusideen Adio, said, “I am proud of the youths and ready to take part in anything that will give a drive to the youths, strengthen and motivate them. This is a blessing, and I will see that this project is finished well.”
Earlier in the week, Animashaun assured the people of her LGA that her administration would fix the roads that needed rehabilitation.
She said the interventions she carried out in her council so far were the tip of the iceberg, noting that they should expect more dividends of democracy in the council.
