Olympique Lyonnais won against Bergerac to secure their ticket for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (2-1).

What if OL saved their season with the Coupe de France? These days, the oldest competition looks like a lifeline for the Rhone club. Already because it represents the shortest and most accessible path to access European qualification, while OL is stuck at the bottom of the Ligue 1 ranking and condemned to play for survival. But also because Les Gones have not lifted a trophy for more than ten years.

Lyon shook

It is in this context that Pierre Sage’s team traveled to Limoges to face one of the small players in these round of 32 matches, Bergerac. A National 2 team which approached this event as a historic moment. Courageously, the locals tried to close the spaces to keep their clean sheet as long as possible. But OL forced this lock shortly after the half-hour mark. Well served by Lacazette, Fofana unlocked his counter to allow Les Gones to take the lead in this match (0-1, 38th).

An ideal scenario for OL, who thought they had done the hardest part to avoid their opponent’s trap. But Bergerac, admirably tenacious, resurfaced just before half-time with a victorious recovery from Escarpit (1-1, 45th+1). The locals, who finished with ten men after the expulsion of Gyeboaho (65th), resisted for a long time but ended up cracking on a perfect volley from Caqueret at the start of the last quarter of an hour (1-2, 78th ). OL does the job without shining.
