A very busy program awaited football lovers with the return of the Coupe de France. Despite the postponement of the confrontation between Entente Feignies Aulnoye FC (N2) and Montpellier and while awaiting the verdict of the summit clash between Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille, the entire round of 16 of the competition was played from Friday January 19 to Sunday January 21. In this regard, it was the players from Olympique Lyonnais who got the ball rolling. Faced with a valiant team from Bergerac (N2), OL narrowly avoided the trap set by the Périgord club (1-2) thanks to their young winter recruit, Malick Fofana, and Maxence Caqueret. The day after the qualification of Les Gones, the oldest French competition kept all its promises by giving us its share of surprises like the feat of Puy-en-Velay (N2) which offered itself the scalp of Dunkirk (2-1), current 19th in the second division.

At the same time, the Ligue 1 teams generally performed well, even if Monaco was forced to draw on its resources to overcome Rodez (1-3). Same story for Brest, long pushed by a team from Trélissac (N2) who played their luck until the end (1-2). At the end of a lively match marked by incidents in the stands of Matmut Atlantique before the kick-off, Nice beat Bordeaux (3-2) while FC Nantes, unfortunate finalist of the last edition, was eliminated by Laval on the smallest of margins (1-0). The red lantern of Ligue 2 Valenciennes regained some confidence by defeating Paris FC (2-1).

A Lyon-Lille shock on the program

Finally, Paris Saint-Germain held its place. Without shining and carried by Kylian Mbappé, the Ile-de-France residents quietly disposed of Orléans (1-4). This Sunday, Lille, Le Havre and Strasbourg held their place while Toulouse, defending champion, took the door against Rouen after an incredible penalty shootout (3-2, 12 tab to 11). For its part, Sochaux also caused a sensation by overcoming Reims (2-2, 5 tab to 4). Note, moreover, the feat of the little thumb of the Saint-Priest competition (N3), winner (4-1) of Romorantin (N2). In the wake of these meetings, Bruno Cheyrou, former manager of OL, carried out the draw for the round of 16. From then on, the different leaders of the competition are now fixed.

Thus, Paris Saint-Germain will host Stade Brestois while OGC Nice will travel to the pitch of Entente Feignies Aulnoye FC (N2) or Montpellier (L1). For its part, Rennes, defeater of OM, will find Sochaux in the next round. Also note a big Ligue 1 clash between Olympique Lyonnais and LOSC Lille. For the rest, Le Puy-en-Velay (N2) will host Stade Lavallois MFC (L2). Strasbourg (L1) will challenge Le Havre (L1) and Saint-Priest (N3), the sensation of the round of 16, will welcome Valenciennes (L2). To conclude this draw, AS Monaco will challenge Rouen
