A Federal High Court in Abuja has denied the request to prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its scheduled Local Government and State Congresses in Kaduna State.
Naija News reports that the ruling was presided over by Justice Peter Lifu.
While delivering his ruling on an ex-parte application submitted by six dissatisfied PDP members from Kaduna State, Justice Lifu declined to halt the elections.
He also dismissed a request to prohibit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from overseeing the Congresses, which are intended to elect new officials for the party at both local and state levels.
After considering the arguments presented by the aggrieved members through their attorney, Affis Matanmi, the judge determined that their requests for restraining orders against the Congresses could not be granted and subsequently rejected the application.
Nevertheless, the judge advised both the party and INEC to refrain from taking further action on the matter, given the ongoing litigation against them.
The case, designated as FHC/ABJ/CD/1144/2024, was filed by six individuals who assert their status as card-carrying members of the party in Kaduna State.
The plaintiffs include Sheu Isa Dan Ina, Mutari Shuiabu, Yusuf Suleiman, Nura Waziri, Malam Mansur Alasan, and Jaafar Abubakar.
The Kaduna PDP chapter and INEC are named as the 1st to 3rd defendants in the case.
In the meantime, Justice Lifu has scheduled August 27 for the hearing of a motion on notice regarding an interlocutory injunction filed by the plaintiffs.
