EXCLUSIVE: Streamer Crunchyroll and Sony Music Entertainment have teamed to launch a weekly podcast spotlight anime‘s impact on the broader cultural zeitgeist.

Crunchyroll Presents: The Anime Effect will launch worldwide in English on all major podcast platforms on February 16, with new episodes following every Friday. Crunchyroll Premium subs will be able to watch the show ad-free through the Crunchyroll app.

Anime experts Nicholas Friedman, LeAlec Murray and Leah President will host, with a mix of news and roundtable discussions with special guests debating hot topics, providing recommendations and tackling fan questions. Friedman is a journalist and publisher of Crunchyroll News, Murray is a podcaster, pop culture enthusiast and Brand Manager at Crunchyroll and President is a writer, editor and Crunchyroll Partnerships Manager.

Anime has boomed in western cultures in the past decade, with Crunchyroll playing a key role in facilitating the growth. The platform has one of the largest licensed anime collections translated into multiple languages.

The Anime Effect is a natural extension of our current Crunchyroll News program and a place where fans can dive deeper into everything anime and celebrate it regardless of what platform or service it is on,” said Gita Rebbapragada, Crunchyroll’s Chief Operating Officer. “Whether you watch anime everyday or a casual viewer, this podcast is a must-listen.”

Crunchyroll operates independently, but is a joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex, both of which are subsidiaries of Tokyo’s Sony Group.
