Crystal Palace have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Trevoh Chalobah on loan on transfer deadline day.
Chalobah, 25, is among the clutch of Blues stars who have been told they are not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, one of 14 players in a group dubbed the ‘bomb squad’ who have been banished from first-team training.
The Londoner is now set to make a move across the capital to join Palace on a straight loan deal with no obligation to pay. The Athletic report Palace have paid an undisclosed fee to sign the centre-half.
Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell are among the Chelsea stars still looking to secure moves away from west London before tonight’s transfer deadline.
Chalobah, who made his senior debut for Chelsea against Palace in 2021, forced his way back into Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up at the end of last season having lost his place following the signings of Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile.
Chelsea have added Tosin Adarabioyo to their ranks this summer, while Wesley Fofana has recovered from a long-term injury to partner Levi Colwill in what has become Maresca’s first-choice pairing at the back.
Chalobah’s arrival at Selhurst Park will mark an impressive final day of business for the Eagles, who have held onto Marc Guehi after rejecting four bids from Newcastle United.
The club have also confirmed the signing of Maxence Lacroix, who arrives from Wolfsburg for a fee of around £18m, signing a five-year deal.
‘It’s like a dream for a young football player. I’m really happy to be here and arrive at this good team,’ Lacroix said.
‘I watched Palace’s last games and I was really happy for the coach, because I’d played under him before. I think it’s the right moment to move to the Premier League.’
Palace Chairman Steve Parish said: ‘We have watched Maxence play at the very highest level of European football and we are delighted to be able to welcome him to Selhurst Park.
‘He is another young, talented player to add to the club, and I am sure he will prove himself to be a valuable asset for Oliver and the squad.’
Joachim Andersen left the club earlier this month, joining Fulham in a £30m deal.
