Some civil society organisations have declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s planned cabinet reshuffle, stating that some ministers have performed below expectations.
This comes as they expressed their disappointment in Tinubu’s administration’s failure to address insecurity, poverty, hunger, and underdevelopment.
According to the CSOs, injecting fresh talents into Tinubu’s administration may bring about positive changes in the government.
Speaking with Saturday PUNCH, Chancellor of the International Social Justice and Human Rights Group, Jackson Omenazu, said it was essential for Tinubu to reshuffle his cabinet and review policies that had caused hardship for Nigerians.
“This government has failed to address poverty, insecurity, hunger, and underdevelopment. The ministers have not fulfilled their roles, and new individuals must come in to guide the country towards prosperity,” Omenazu said.
He emphasised the need for Tinubu to reinstate the fuel subsidy, noting that it was one of the few benefits Nigerians had received from the government.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organisation, Enefaa Georgwill, called on Tinubu to completely overhaul his cabinet.
He said, “The country is drifting dangerously, and we are sitting on a keg of gunpowder due to widespread hunger and anger. We need leaders of proven integrity to steer Nigeria in the right direction.”
Georgwill called for immediate action to alleviate poverty and improve the living conditions of citizens.
However, the APC South East Vice Chairman, Ijeomah Arodiogbu, expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ministers, adding that the current administration was making progress.
“It is important for Nigerians to be patient as this is just about the first year of their tenure. We shouldn’t expect immediate results but should allow them the time they need to make an impact,” he said.
