WWE is an ever-changing product and continues to give people something different, especially when it comes to their commentary team. With Kevin Patrick’s firing, it appears there will be more changes to the SmackDown commentary team.

As previously reported, many in WWE were closely monitoring Kevin Patrick’s performance as he became the lead play-by-play commentator for SmackDown without Michael Cole by his side. In the end, he was simply fired from his position for not being up to the task.

Following his firing, Michael Cole ended up taking his place and is now commentating alongside Corey Graves on SmackDown. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about Michael Cole’s status as the commentator on SmackDown.

Meltzer mentioned that the current arrangement with Michael Cole handling SmackDown may not be permanent. He indicated that Michael Cole has it for now, but it’s not a long-term solution. Meltzer noted that he was unsure about the identity of the eventual replacement for the role on SmackDown.

”He’s not going to be doing Friday much longer. He may not even be doing it this week. I was told Michael Cole has it for now but this is not a permanent thing. I don’t know who the new guy is, but I was just told Michael Cole doing SmackDown, it’s still a one time thing.”

Pat McAfee returned as part of the commentary team on Monday Night RAW this week. We will have to wait and see who will end up replacing Kevin Patrick in the long run, as it’s certainly not Michael Cole.
