Nigerian singer, David Adeleke better known as Davido has responded to his first baby mama, Sophia Momodu’s statement opposing his request for joint custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke.

Sophia in making her case against joint custody of Imade, outlined several reasons and made reference to the singer’s three-year-old son Ifeanyi who drowned in a swimming pool at the family’s home in Lagos in 2022.

“The fact that the applicant lost his son in his house in rather unfortunate and questionable circumstances shows that our daughter cannot be placed in the custody of the applicant,” she told the Lagos State High Court.

Davido, in reaction to her remarks about his late son, took to Instagram story on Friday to express himself.

He said, “Your constantly bringing up the death of my child at any point u can to just remind us of this tragedy that haunts us everyday of our lives.

“Imade will grow up to see I fought for her.. as for now u can have her..

“P.S she won’t be a child forever.. enjoy. Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!”

Davido said all he wants is joint custody of their daughter.

“All I ask for is joint custody!! But cus it’s ‘Davido y’all wanna act like y’all can’t read. Smh.. I’m off this! Y’all be blessed and I pray this never happens to you,” he added.

Sophia, in her 100-paragraph counter-affidavit, emphasised that their daughter, who is nine years old, has lived with her all her life.

She stated, “As her mother, I have been responsible for her welfare, upkeep, and well-being.”

She urged the court not to grant custody to Davido, citing his controversial lifestyle, which she argued would expose their daughter to negative influences.

“The applicant in his role as an artiste always travels and allows many unsavoury male adults around him and his house, who will not be a good influence on an impressionable young female child, like our daughter,” she said.

Recall, Davido recently initiated a legal suit aiming for custody of their daughter days before his traditional wedding.

The singer in the case, no, LD/1587PMC/2024/ claimed that although he once had a relationship with Momodu, it ended years ago, and they had agreed to co-parent their child.

He, however alleged that this arrangement had not been honoured, stating that Sophia rejected his house offer and demanded a monthly rent of N5 million, among other things.
