Dabba opted to launch its DePIN and onboard users even before considering rolling out Web 3.0 features like tokenization.

Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) Dabba has announced Season 2 of its much-anticipated global connectivity outreach. The protocol, which is generally recognized for its commitment to delivering WiFi connectivity to underserved markets shared insights into the plans for the new phase including the rollout of 10,000 additional hotspots. Notably, they would be made available for purchase globally.

Thereafter, network partners all over India would be charged with deploying these hotspots, and ultimately providing internet access in regions where there is high data demand.

Dabba DePIN Prepares for Token Generation Event

Dabba DePIN Season 2 went live on Thursday, May 23, ahead of a token generation event on Solana that is scheduled to be held in July.

The launch of the native token is important to facilitate the creation of a two-sided marketplace, existing between data consumers and providers. This is specifically for those who are responsible for building and maintaining internet infrastructure. These stakeholders earn rewards for their contributions to the Dabba network.

Any participant who signs up for Dabba DePIN Season 2 in advance of its token generation event will be eligible to earn enhanced Genesis rewards.

In addition to the Season 2 launch, Dabba also unveiled an explorer with interesting features. This tool allows users to discover current data hotspots and view current network performance. Before this time, the explorer was responsible for providing data for the Dabba testnet, which has been operational for the past two months. So far, Dabba has recorded the deployment of over 1,500 hotspots and more than 15,000 unique devices connected.

While this led to the consumption of over 390 TB of data, it also pulled in more than $4.5K in revenue, received from customers taking advantage of Dabba’s low-cost wifi service. As more devices are deployed on Dabba, it is likely that the growing data demand will be met and revenue will increase significantly.

Like Dabba, DePIN projects are making waves across the board. Recently, Solana-based io.net raised $30 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation.

Dabba Pursues DePIN before Tokenization

It is worthy of note that Dabba opted to launch its DePIN and onboard users even before considering rolling out Web 3.0 features like tokenization. This is its approach towards ensuring the presence of genuine demand for its service before creating a viable business model that can scale to match the demand.

India is the location for the initial deployment of Dabba’s DePIN. The Asian country provides an environment where rural and semi-urban areas alike are underserved by incumbent data solutions. As a country that claims the position of the world’s second highest number of internet users, India has about 44% of its residents still lacking internet access.

Dabba is focused on empowering the over 150,000 Local Cable Operators (LCO’s) that run their businesses as micro-ISPs across India for hotspot deployments. In the long run, the plan is to provide an unrivaled high-speed network that will connect India, the world’s fifth-largest economy.
