Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role of Rey Skywalker in an upcoming Star Wars film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
In a new interview, Ridley is expressing her excitement over the project and teasing that the story is going in a “different direction.”
“So I thought about it for a little bit, and once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew it was something I really wanted to do,” Ridley said in an interview with AlloCiné. “I think it’s a really fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It’s a really cool way of taking the story on in a bit of a different direction.”
Ridley last played Rey in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The future of the Star Wars Universe and the Skywalker timeline seemed uncertain until the new film directed by Obaid-Chinoy was announced. The new film is set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker as Rey builds a new Jedi Order.
In November 2023, Ridley talked about how nervous she was at London’s Star Wars Celebration earlier that year when the project was announced publicly.
“I was sh**ting myself before I went on stage, because no one knew I was going to that,” she told Collider. “No one knew I was going to Celebration, bar like [Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy] and there were a couple of people. I was so nervous. Oh my god.”
She continued, “It was such a wonderful reception. I’m very excited. The story is really cool.”
Ridley doesn’t know if the upcoming film is the beginning of a new trilogy or a standalone film adding, “I know the storyline for one film. That’s not to say that that’s all it is, but that’s what I was told about. And I imagine it will be the next film, I think. I mean, again, I don’t know, post strikes and everything, how quickly everything will start up again. But yes, so far, I know the story of one film and I think people will be very excited.”
