Dakota Kai is ready for her fairytale ending.

Next week, Dakota Kai and Lyra Valkyria each have the opportunity to become the inaugural WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. For Valkyria, it would mark her second singles title in WWE, as she’s already held the NXT Women’s title. For Kai, however, it would come as her first taste of singles gold in the company, as she’s primarily found success in WWE’s tag division.

During a brief interview with The Ringer Wrestling Show, Kai opened up about her mindset heading into the respective title match.

“I am so pumped. I’m very overwhelmed,” Kai said. “I mean, it feels like it’s been a long time coming. I’ve been in the company for about seven years now, and while I’ve had opportunities, it’s almost been like close but no cigar.

“So for me, next week is a big opportunity to show what I can do, for starters, and then hopefully finish off that fairytale ending and have my hand raised high and have that belt around my waist. But yeah, I’m super excited. I’ve been training for it and I hope everyone is excited as I am.”

Kai’s journey to this Women’s Intercontinental Championship match began with a victory over Shayna Baszler and Katana Chance in a tournament opener. In the semi-finals, she then defeated Zoey Stark. Looking ahead, she now opposes Valkyria, who previously defeated the likes of IYO SKY, Zelina Vega, and Ivy Nile in previous tournament competition.

The WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship tournament finals will take place on the January 13 episode of RAW. This episode will be the second one to air on Netflix.
