Wanaparthy: Dalit leaders in Pebbair came together on Tuesday to celebrate the Central government’s decision to honor MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga with the prestigious Padma Shri award. During a press meet at the Pebbair Press Club, they expressed that this recognition was a testament to his tireless public service.
The leaders praised Manda Krishna for his substantial contributions to improving the lives of Dalits in the State. They likened his efforts to those of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the Dalit cause.
Manda Krishna is best known for starting the Dandora movement in 1994, a campaign focused on Dalit rights and welfare. Over the past four decades, this movement has brought about numerous welfare initiatives that have positively impacted many lives.
The leaders highlighted his role in advocating for major welfare programs such as Aarogyasri (health insurance) and pensions for the elderly, widows, and disabled individuals in the combined Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. They credited his relentless efforts as a driving force behind these achievements.
