The Dangote Refinery has been lauded as a transformative force capable of reshaping Africa’s economic future.

This is according to the African Union High Representative, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas.

During his recent visit to the 650,000-barrel-per-day facility in Lagos, Chambas highlighted its potential to lift millions out of poverty through job creation and economic revitalisation.

Praising the refinery as a testament to African entrepreneurship, Chambas emphasised its critical role in driving regional growth and creating opportunities for the continent’s youth.

The refinery, hailed as a beacon of African entrepreneurship and ingenuity, has the potential to transform the continent’s economic landscape, according to Chambas, AU High Representative for Silencing the Guns.

This was contained in a statement obtained by PUNCH Online on Monday.

Chambas praised Aliko Dangote for his visionary leadership and business acumen, stating that the Dangote Group is setting the standard for Africa’s private sector.

“This is the kind of transformational project Africa needs. By creating jobs and providing affordable fuel for industries and transportation, the refinery will have a multiplier effect on national and regional economies,” he said.

He further emphasised that such projects play a pivotal role in creating opportunities for the youth and could serve as a pathway to silencing conflicts across the continent.

In addition, Chambas commended Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a steady supply of crude oil to the refinery, acknowledging his role in fostering an enabling business environment.

“Tinubu’s leadership has been instrumental in supporting the refinery’s operations, showcasing his commitment to economic growth and development,” he added.

According to him, the Dangote Refinery, which positions itself as a cornerstone of Africa’s energy sector, is not only a testament to Nigeria’s industrial prowess but also a symbol of hope for a self-reliant Africa.
