Former Barca and Brazil star Dani Alves has been found guilty of sexual assault.

Dani Alves was sentenced to four years and six months in prison after being convicted of sexual assault.

A Spanish court found the former Brazil and FC Barcelona star guilty of raping a woman in a nightclub in December 2002. The 40-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison and six months and to pay 150,000 euros to the victim.

Heavy sentence for Dani Alves

Alves was arrested in January 2023 and has been detained since then, with his bail requests rejected. Prosecutors had requested a nine-year prison sentence for the former footballer.

An official statement was made by the court: “The sentence considers that it has been proven that the victim did not consent and that there is evidence, in addition to the testimony of the complainant, to consider the rape as proven“.
