Dani Olmo was the most notable absence for FC Barcelona in Saturday’s La Liga opener against Valencia at Mestalla, which they won 2-1.

The 26-year-old summer signing from RB Leipzig is not yet registered in La Liga and as such had to be left out of the squad, although manager Hansi Flick insisted that the Spaniard was still not ready to play, having not trained much with the team.

Now, though, Jordi Gil of SPORT reports that Olmo is ‘impatient’ to play his first minutes as a Barcelona player and has started working at a greater intensity in training sessions.

The UEFA Euro 2024 winner has continued to work intensively and his physical condition would not be an obstacle to playing in Barça’s next game, which takes place against Athletic Club on Saturday at Montjuic.

Olmo is understood to be training normally with his teammates and has not been bothered by any discomfort.

The former La Masia trainee is trying to stay calm, away from the noise at the club about the problems in generating Fair Play margin. But, at the same time, he is impatient to get on the field and play for Barcelona.

After being presented last Monday at Montjuic, Olmo trained all week with the team until Friday when he found out that his registration was still not possible.

The player wanted to travel with the rest of the squad to Valencia, but it turned out to be impossible and he stayed working to improve his physical condition even more.

Barça, for their part, continue to look for ways to find wage space.

The sales of players such as Clement Lenglet, Vitor Roque and Mika Faye are yet to be finalised and if any of these operations are completed, it would be easier to comply with La Liga regulations and register the €55 million signing.
