Daniel Garcia thinks AEW is becoming like Gotham City, as he bids to become a top star.

The AEW star recently re-signed with the company, after months of speculation about a potential move to WWE. His goal is to ascend to the top of the promotion. Wins over stars like Bryan Danielson in the past have set him up for a big run in the main event, although time will tell if Daniel Garcia can do it.

Daniel Garcia appeared on AEW Close Up w/ Renee Paquette, and discussed if he had what it takes to be a top star. He compared AEW to Gotham City from Batman. He asked if you could become a top star without resorting to crimes, like Swerve Strickland breaking into Hangman’s house, or Hangman setting Swerve’s house on fire.

“That’s a question I kind of ask myself every day. I feel like everybody wants to be that guy, but not everybody is willing to do what it takes to be that guy. Then you see people who succeed in this company. People like MJF, Jon Moxley and the BCC. Are these the things that you have to do in order to be that guy here?”

“Everybody loves Swerve now. What was Swerve doing a year ago? Breaking into someone’s house and talking down to their kid. Hangman Adam Page, just burning somebody’s house to the ground. What is this place? Is this Gotham? This place is lawless! Are these the things that we have to do to succeed?”

“Do you have to become a monster to get to the next step at AEW? And that’s the question I’m asking myself: can somebody with any moral conscience find success here? Is it possible? And I think that’s a question we all gotta ask ourselves.”
