A Saturday that Danny Welbeck won’t forget.
He and his Brighton teammates clinging on as it looked only a question of time before Newcastle United scored.
Then pretty much the first time the visitors got into the Newcastle half, they scored with their first attack.
Danny Welbeck working a quick one-two after a free-kick had swiftly been knocked up the pitch, with the former Man U striker scoring.
With Newcastle still pressing for the equaliser in the second-half, Danny Welbeck suddenly lying on the ground after what had looked a nothing kind of challenge/incident.
We are so used to seeing players (of all teams!) wasting time these days when going to ground under dubious circumstances, Newcastle United fans couldn’t be blamed for thinking this was yet another instance.
However, when his treatment on the pitch lasted three, four, five, six minutes, there was a clear acceptance that this wasn’t any kind of timewasting and Danny Welbeck clearly in agony.
You could see the concern of the Newcastle United players around him.
Danny Welbeck stretchered off to applause from all around St James’ Park.
There has been an update from the player himself now and thankfully it is very positive news…
Danny Welbeck via his personal Twitter/X – 20 October 2024:
“Still a bit sore, but after some extra checks and scan today, I’m pleased to say I should be back in training soon.
“Thanks to our medical staff and Newcastle Royal Infirmary A and E for their care and professionalism.
“Also to the boys for waiting for me to get home!
“Huge 3 points.”
