Darby Allin‘s dislike of the term superstar has nothing to do with the competition between AEW and WWE.

All Elite Wrestling‘s Darby Allin was a recent guest on The Ethan, Lou & Large Dave Show. When asked about his recent comments about not liking the term “Superstar,” Allin went in depth about why he doesn’t like the term and it has nothing to do with the world of professional wrestling.

“So the thing is, with me and wrestling is that I’m a big wrestling fan,” Darby Allin said. “Don’t get me wrong, but my life does not begin and end with wrestling. I have so much outside hobbies and goals that I want to achieve in life. So this whole thing with AEW versus WWE, I do not care. I am so out living in my own world, I don’t even got a TV at my house. Got 14 acres down in Georgia, I’m always jumping four-wheelers, jumping cars, just blowing things up in the backyard. I got a skate park in my backyard. I just like to live in my own little world, and I love it like that.

“But the thing with the superstar term is when you think of like, hey, I’m a superstar. You’re pretty much telling your fans that you’re better than them and you’re way above them. And I feel like there’s a way to inspire people being like, yo, I’m just like you. But if you believe in yourself, you can make it too. And I think a lot of people should just have some more self-confidence and respect for themselves, and not praise false idols, like, all hail Tom Cruise.

“It’s a really random analogy, but the thing is, dude, have some self-respect, man. You could do something with your life too. Like we’re all born on this earth, we kind of just got the same path. Why is it that someone else is able to achieve something and you’re not? I just never understood that. Like, oh, that guy, he deserved that. Not me. I’m like, What? Why don’t you deserve that?

“I just think a lot of people just don’t have the confidence, and I think that’s just because they’re born into this seeing people through the TV, and they don’t know how to get to that world. I just think it’s like a whole thing man, I just felt like I just never wanted to walk into a place and be like, yo, I’m the superstar here, man. It’s like, shut up!”
