EXCLUSIVE: Dawn Porter is producing a short film to be shown at next week’s Democratic National Convention, helmed by her production company, Trilogy Films, according to sources.

Porter has interviewed President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, among others.

Porter posted on Instagram last week a photo with Biden and the message, “Thank you for your dedication to public service Mr. President. An honor to interview you.”

Porter is the latest industry figure to get a high-profile assignment of helming a film for the convention. Davis Guggenheim produced film shorts on Barack Obama for the 2008 and 2012 conventions; Shonda Rhimes produced a Hillary Clinton video for the 2016 convention. Spike Jonze made Al Gore’s 2000 Democratic National Convention biographical film.

Porter’s recent work includes directing the documentary Luther: Never Too Much, about Luther Vandross, and set to premiere next year on CNN, OWN and Max; Power of the Dream, the story of women’s basketball players who took on a WNBA team owner to rally behind Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA); and Cirque du Soleil: Without a Net. Her credits also include The Lady Bird Diaries, about the influential first lady. She also produced and directed the Showtime documentary series Deadlocked: How America Shaped the Supreme Court.

In 2020, Porter directed and produced the feature documentary John Lewis: Good Trouble, along with a short on the civil rights leader that was shown at the convention that year.
