Al-Ittihad have reportedly abandoned plans to sign Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne despite reaching a personal agreement.

The 33-year-old playmaker has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. With no extension agreed to date, the Belgium international has attracted interest from sides in the big-spending Saudi Pro League.

Al-Ittihad, who already have Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho in their ranks, were keen to acquire De Bruyne, the great star of modern times. A lucrative offer was put on the table and was deemed acceptable by the six-time Premier League winner.

City too demanding

However, transfer expert Rudy Galetti claims that Al-Ittihad pulled out after being put off by City’s price demands. An offer of £25 million was reportedly rejected, while earlier reports suggested the Blues were keen on a fee closer to £50 million ($64 million).

With Houssem Aouar already signed, Al-Ittihad feel they have enough quality options in midfield to cope for now. De Bruyne could return to the forefront in 2025 if he continues to head towards the open market.
