'Deadpool & Wolverine' Launches Awards Campaigns, Category Submissions Revealed

Ryan will be submitted for Lead Actor in a comedy or musical for his performance as Wade Wilson/Deadpool at the upcoming Golden Globes in January, while Hugh will be submitted in the supporting actor category at the Oscars, Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards and Critics Choice Awards, Variety reveals.

At the Golden Globes, Deadpool & Wolverine is likely a shoe-in for the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, which was introduced this past year. Barbie won the inaguraul award.

To be considered for this award, a film must gross at least $150 million, with $100 million of that in the US, or “achieve comparable digital streaming viewership figures recognized by industry standards.” The Marvel movie has grossed $627.5 million at the domestic box office so far, and over $1.318 billion at the global box office. It is the highest-grossing Rated R movie at the box office, ever!

At the Oscars next year, the movie will also likely be submitted in technical categories, such as production design, sound, and visual effects.

The first Deadpool movie won two Critics Choice awards, was nominated for two Golden Globes. Overall, the film picked up 15 total award wins out of 60 nominations. The second movie was up for several awards, including a Grammy and three Critics Choice Movie Awards.

Stay tuned as awards season gets underway later this year. Golden Globe nominations will be announced in December, along with the Oscars shortlists. The full Oscar nominations will be revealed in January, along with SAG Awards.
