Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has set his sights on Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho as a potential signing, even though they would have to jump several hurdles to complete a deal.
Financially, Barcelona are not the strongest institution in football. Controversy has filled the club in that regard and they still struggle to balance the books each year.
Luis Miguelsanz from Sport doesn’t let Barca’s financial difficulties get in the way of his reporting, though. The Spanish journalist claims Deco wants to bring Sancho to Camp Nou but the player’s substantial salary is likely to prevent any deal from materialising.
This doesn’t change the fact Sancho’s future at United is uncertain, and he could become a key player in the transfer market as we approach the final week of the summer window.
United have reportedly set a €40m asking price for Sancho, who has been a flop since joining United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
As of now, no club has made a formal bid for Sancho, despite reported interest from PSG and Chelsea.
It remains to be seen if United will let him go out on loan again.
Deco is reportedly monitoring the situation closely, recognising that the England international could be an attractive option for the club.
The only way I see Barca doing a deal is if they can sign Sancho on loan for the season, but I don’t know how that will benefit United…
Sancho’s days at United are numbered but we’ll struggle to find a European club willing to match his salary.
The winger was left out of United’s first squad of the season against Fulham last week.
