Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Pedri’s agent, Hector Peris, today to move forward with plans for the midfielder’s contract renewal, reports Carlos Monfort through Jijantes

The meeting, which lasted for an hour and a half, took place at the Ciutat Esportiva and was seen as a key step in extending the midfielder’s contract, which is set to expire in 2026.

Barcelona view Pedri as one of their most important players and are eager to secure his long-term future at the club.

It must be noted that despite their keen desire, the financial challenges faced by Barcelona have made contract renewals more complex, but the club is determined to finalise a new deal for Pedri.

Deco and Peris have been in touch

It is said that both Deco and Peris have been in frequent communication over the past few months, working to navigate the situation carefully. Despite his current contract running until 2026, Barcelona want to extend the length of his deal, ensuring his stay at the club for many more years.

Barcelona believe Pedri will continue to be a pivotal figure in the squad. His physical condition is being closely monitored, and the club has shown patience and trust in the young midfielder’s progress.

The meeting between Deco and Peris, though early in the renewal process, allowed both sides to outline their goals and next steps. Following the discussion, both parties left the club’s facilities separately, but it is clear that negotiations are moving in the right direction.

Pedri has improved under Flick

It is said that one factor that has played a significant role in Pedri’s development is the arrival of Julio Tous and his staff at Barcelona.

Under their guidance, the Spaniard has shown noticeable improvement in his physical condition, particularly his stamina and endurance in the final stages of matches.

This has impressed not only the fans but also the club’s leadership. His ability to last the full 90 minutes with consistent energy is a testament to the work being done to help him recover fully.

The club’s intention to renew Pedri’s contract reflects their faith in his talent and potential. While financial considerations are at play, Barcelona remain determined to keep the talented midfielder, who is showing signs of becoming even stronger after his injury setback.
