Super Eagles midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, has expressed his delight after scoring his first goal for Lazio following his summer loan transfer from Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Dele-Bashiru scored a goal and provided an assist as the Italian side thrashed Dynamo Kyiv 3-0 in a UEFA Europa League game at Volksparkstadion on Wednesday night.
The Manchester City youth product shared his excitement after he found the back of the net in his fourth appearance for Lazio.
“I’m very happy for the goal and for having scored in front of our fans,” he told the Lazio Style Channel.
“It was important to start well, and I’m happy with my understanding on the pitch with Boulaye Dia. I feel happy in this team; I have a great relationship with everyone; everyone helps me to settle in, and I’m getting better and better.
“I scored a beautiful goal!
“Of course I’m happy. Before the match, I had faith in myself and in the team. I think I did my job; the goal and the assist made me even happier. It wasn’t easy to adapt to the new team; my teammates and the coach are helping me. It’s not easy, but I’m getting there.”
Also speaking after the victory, Lazio Manager Baroni requested more from the Nigerian while emphasising the areas that he needed to improve on.
“Dele-Bashiru is a player who needs to be built, in the sense that he needs to have more tactical thinking and fill the game. When he finds this, he becomes a great modern midfielder,” he said, as quoted by the Italian media outlet Fanta Master.
Up next for Dele-Bashiru and his Lazio teammates is a trip to Stadio Olimpico Grande, where they take on Torino in matchday 6 of the 2024/25 Serie A game on Sunday.
