The Oritsuwa of Warri Kingdom, Godday Erewa, has dismissed allegations linking the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, to pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering.

A recent report claimed that a company chaired by the Delta State monarch was involved in such illegal activities.

However, Erewa described the allegations as baseless and unfounded, insisting that the traditional ruler had never engaged in any illegal venture.

Erewa made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday and made available to our correspondent.

He stated that the monarch has consistently contributed to the development of the Warri Kingdom and the Niger Delta region at large, making it inconceivable for him to be involved in illegal dealings.

“Contrary to the false allegations peddled by fifth columnists, the Olu of Warri has embarked on several projects and programmes aimed at promoting socio-economic development, peace, and societal well-being.

“The Olu, as a people-centric leader, has demonstrated an uncommon commitment to ensuring that public assets are safe and secure,” the statement read in part.

Erewa expressed concern over the timing of the allegations, suggesting they were intended to mislead the public and tarnish the monarch’s reputation for selfish reasons.

“It is confounding that these accusations have surfaced at this particular moment, signalling a conscious attempt to mislead the public and mar the reputation of the Olu for selfish reasons.

“The Olu’s longstanding commitment to ethical conduct, peace, transparency, and environmental safeguards in the region is unparalleled,” he added.

While urging Nigerians to disregard the allegations, Erewa said they were aimed at distracting from the remarkable progress achieved under the monarch’s leadership.

“We call on Nigerians to disregard these unfounded claims and recognise the Olu of Warri’s dedication to national development. Instead of attempting to bring down reputable leaders, efforts should be directed towards collaboration and nation-building.

“For the record, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III remains a beacon of hope, a promoter of peace, and a visionary leader dedicated to the prosperity of his people. His efforts to ensure security, economic engagement, and sustainable development are evident in the transformation within Warri Kingdom and beyond,” the statement noted.
