The Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice Tessy Diai, granted freedom to an inmate, Mr Napue Chitu, during her quarterly visit to the Warri Correctional Centre.

Speaking during the visit on Thursday, Justice Diai noted that a total of 379 warrants were reviewed, disclosing that the release of the inmate was based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

She stated, “A total of 379 warrants were reviewed, and the release of the inmate was based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“We also visited the Sapele Correctional Centre the following day, where the warrants of inmates were reviewed, including those of the children at the Sapele Remand Home. No inmate was granted bail; for other inmates, their cases are still ongoing in court.”

Justice Diai commended the Assistant Controller of Prisons at the Warri Correctional Centre, the office of the DPP, and all others involved in the exercise for their efforts in ensuring the success of the prison visit.

She said the visit would continue on Monday, November 11, 2024, to other Correctional Centres in the state.

In his address, the Controller of Prisons at the Warri Correctional Centre lauded the State Chief Judge for the quarterly visits, saying that the initiative would help to decongest the number of inmates in the Correctional Centre.
